Bartica weatherboard houses

Lots of houses are still made from timber in Bartica. Not just weatherboard, even shingles are used on some of the older houses. Prettiest houses have wooden fascias like lacework or filigree. Many are painted in bright, Caribbean colours, like pink or turquoise. As usual, I took to sketching the houses, because I was too shy to try and sketch the people.

Most of the houses I’ve managed to sketch are old and not very well maintained…again, because I don’t have the nerve to sit in the busy parts of town, and found myself wandering in the outskirts of the town, in poorer neighbourhoods, where streets were empty and I could sit in a corner, unnoticed.
